Vulva Skin tag / Labia Skin Tag: How to Remove? Is It Dangerous?
What many people describe as a Vulva Skin tag / Labia Skin Tag may actually be a benign skin tag, cyst, wart, polyp, or another type of genital lesion.
If the growth is soft, similar in color to the surrounding skin, and located on the external genital skin, it may be a skin tag (Acrochordon) or a fibroepithelial polyp, both of which are usually benign.
However, if the growth is located inside the vagina or on the cervix, grows rapidly, bleeds, or has an unusual appearance, it should be examined by a doctor.

What Is Vulva Skin tag / Labia Skin Tag?
Patients may use the word vagina to refer to the entire female genital area, including the labia and vaginal opening.
Medically, however, the exact location of the lesion is important.
- A skin tag near the vaginal opening or a skin tag on the labia may be a common skin tag, fibroepithelial polyp, cyst, or genital wart.
- A growth located inside the vagina should be examined to determine whether it arises from the vaginal wall, cervix, or another structure.
What Causes a Skin Tag Near the Vaginal Opening?
1. Common Skin Tag (Skin Tag / Acrochordon)
A common skin tag is a soft piece of tissue that protrudes from the skin. It is usually skin-colored or slightly darker and may occur in areas exposed to friction, such as the groin or labia majora.

2. Fibroepithelial Stromal Polyp
A fibroepithelial stromal polyp is a rare, usually benign growth that may occur on the vulva or inside the vagina.
It may appear as a polyp-like growth or a slowly enlarging mass. Larger lesions or lesions with an unclear appearance may need to be removed and sent for pathological examination.

Is Vulva Skin tag / Labia Skin Tag Dangerous?
If the doctor examines the lesion and it appears to be a typical skin tag without concerning symptoms, removal may not be necessary unless it causes friction, irritation, or cosmetic concerns.
Further investigation, such as a biopsy for pathological examination, may be recommended if the lesion does not look like a typical skin tag.
Warning signs include rapid growth, ulceration, bleeding, changes in color, uneven pigmentation, poorly defined borders, or an unusual shape.
How to Remove Vulva Skin tag / Labia Skin Tag?
If the Skin Tag Causes Irritation, Friction, or Cosmetic Concerns
If the lesion is a common external skin tag and the doctor determines that removal is appropriate, treatment options may include surgical excision, electrocautery, or CO2 laser removal.
Growths located inside the vagina, large lesions, or lesions with an uncertain diagnosis should be evaluated before treatment is selected. In some cases, biopsy or pathological examination may be required.
